Homeless Garden Project
About
Founded in Santa Cruz, CA, the Homeless Garden Project has grown into a community-supported initiative known for its dedication to providing job-training and transitional employment opportunities. Over the years, it has developed a variety of programs to support individuals facing barriers to employment and housing.
The farm adheres to certified organic farming methods, ensuring that all produce, flowers, and plants are grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. The emphasis on organic practices not only nurtures the soil but also promotes a healthier ecosystem.
The farm offers a CSA program from June through October, delivering fresh garden produce, strawberries, and flowers to subscribers. The newly opened Homegrown Gardens nursery provides a variety of fruit trees, berries, perennial fruits and vegetables, herbs, flowers, and starts for home gardeners and landscapers. Visitors are encouraged to engage with the farm through volunteer opportunities, internships, farm tours, and group visits. Despite its successes, the project relies heavily on community donations to sustain its programs and services.
