About the Farm
Background
Founded in 1930 by G. C. 'Clint' Walker, Sr. in Milam County, the farm has been harvesting and selling locally produced honey for 87 years. The venture began with 150 beehives during the Great Depression and has grown to span four generations of Walker beekeepers. Over the decades, the farm has expanded its offerings to include beeswax soaps, candles, creamed honey, and craft meads and wines. Despite challenges like Colony Collapse Disorder, the farm has thrived and now operates a new retail store and production facility near Temple, TX.
Practices
The farm adheres to a 'Bee-to-Bottle' philosophy, emphasizing minimal interference with nature's processes. They harvest, extract, and pack raw honey without altering its natural goodness. This approach ensures that all products, from honey pralines to blackberry honey wine, maintain the purity and quality that nature intended.
The Rest
Visitors can explore the Honey Farm Store, which offers ten unique floral varieties of honey, honey spread with fruit, bee pollen, honey nut butters, soaps, lotions, honey candy, and candles. The store also features a tasting bar for their meads, produced under the Dancing Bee Winery brand established in 2011. The farm is open to the public Monday through Sunday with varying hours and offers 'Bee-to-Bottle' tours to showcase their honey production process.
