About the Farm
Background
Sugar Hill Berry Farm, LLC, located in East Wallingford, Vermont, is a family-owned and operated berry farm. John Palatine, whose passion for farming began in his youth, and Taffy Hyyppa, who grew up on a horse farm, manage the farm. John has extensive experience in agriculture, having managed a 100-acre berry farm and operated a lawn care business for over 17 years. Taffy has a background in Juvenile Justice and has volunteered in sustainable farming projects in South Africa. The farm has been voted Best of the Best for three consecutive years.
Practices
The farm emphasizes a direct farm experience, allowing visitors to pick their own blueberries from mid-July through September. With 2000 bushes and 9 varieties of blueberries, the farm ensures a plentiful harvest. They also offer a self-service stand stocked with pre-picked pints of blueberries and various produce, including corn, peas, beans, tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, onions, garlic, and pumpkins. The farm encourages responsible handling and storage of blueberries to maintain their freshness and quality.
The Rest
The farm is family-friendly and requests visitors to wear sturdy shoes and sunscreen. Hand sanitizers are provided, and visitors are asked to sanitize their hands before entering the field. The farm also provides picking containers. While the farm is dog-friendly, visitors are asked to leave their pets at home. The self-service stand operates 24/7 during the season, offering a convenient way to purchase fresh produce.
