About

Background

Shelly McMahon has dedicated her efforts to raising laying hens on pasture, allowing them to roam freely and perform their natural behaviors. Known for producing eggs with rich flavor and dark orange yolks, her farm has become a local favorite for those seeking high-quality, pasture-raised eggs.

Practices

Raising chickens on pasture enables the birds to peck and scratch for bugs and seeds, take dust baths, and enjoy fresh grass regularly through rotational grazing. The hens are provided with fresh water, nesting boxes, and perches, and their diet is supplemented with a custom blend of grains free from unnecessary fillers and antibiotics. Portable fencing is used to protect the hens from predators, and a special blend of seeds is sown in the pastures to enhance the omega-3 profile of the eggs.

Of note

Pasture-raised eggs from Shelly’s farm contain significantly higher levels of vitamin E, beta-carotene, and Omega-3 fatty acids compared to industrial eggs. The eggshells come in a variety of colors, including blue-green and brown, adding a unique touch to the product.
