About

Background

Melissa Driscoll developed an interest in sustainable farming at an early age, selling garden vegetables at farmers’ markets and raising chickens for 4H. She continued her farming journey with the Philadelphia Community Farm CSA and Gardens of Eagan Organic Farm. After a three-year search, Melissa and her husband Jay bought the land for Seven Songs Organic Farm in early 2010.

Practices

The farm is located on seven acres of gently rolling hills with excellent black prairie soil. Melissa raises AWA Delaware breed laying hens that forage freely in a large outdoor yard, engaging in natural behaviors such as dust-bathing and searching for insects. The hens are fed organic egg layer mash and grains. Melissa aims to hatch all replacement stock under broody hens, ensuring that all hens are hatched and raised on the farm. The farm also features a hoop house for out-of-season produce.

Of note

Seven Songs Organic Farm sells eggs in St. Paul once a week and offers farm work days for those interested in experiencing farm life. The farm specializes in growing garlic, ginger, and heirloom tomatoes, and produces its own Escape! Garlic Scape Pesto. Customers can join the egg waiting list by calling the farm directly.
