SANTEE Farm & Gardens
About
The farm began its journey in Southern Mississippi, where it operated on a six-acre site north of New Orleans for four years before relocating to central Pennsylvania. Known for its small-scale, replicable farming model, the farm aims to be authentically local and relevant to nearby communities. It integrates into the local food system through relationships with families, farmers markets, buying clubs, and charitable distributions to faith-based organizations.
The farm is committed to organic mini-farming, avoiding synthetic chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides. It focuses on producing a variety of vegetables on six acres of land, emphasizing the importance of hard work and personal character development. The farm also addresses the challenges of hot weather and weed control without toxic chemicals, teaching practical farming skills through hands-on experience.
The farm offers an active internship program, shares gardening space with local families, and donates surplus produce to the Greater Wheeling Soup Kitchen. It emphasizes food independence, spirituality, and building stable communities. With forty years of small-scale farming experience, the farm provides common sense and practical advice for lifestyle changes and sustainable farming practices.
