About the Farm
Background
Rowley & Hawkins Fruit Farm began its journey in Washington in 1981, after leaving a successful farming operation in Utah. The family has been involved in fruit farming for over seven generations, dating back to the 1800s in England. They pioneered the tart cherry industry in Washington and currently operate around 1000 acres in Basin City. Over the years, they expanded their operations to include a cherry processing line, Northwest Tart Cherry, founded in 1984, and developed the Taste-a-Treat and FreshPicks brands for their processed and fresh products.
Practices
The farm operates with a deep respect for the land, leveraging generations of knowledge and experience to adapt and improve their farming methods. They focus on growing a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, including tart cherries, sweet cherries, peaches, pears, plums, nectarines, apples, apricots, raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, boysenberries, grapes, and asparagus. Their practices emphasize the importance of family involvement and the belief that fruit is essential for a healthy life.
The Rest
Rowley & Hawkins Fruit Farm sells their produce locally at farmers markets and through their FreshPicks retail store, which also offers real fruit smoothies, craft roasted coffee, and other novelty items. Their Northwest Tart Cherry processing facility has grown to process over 8 million pounds of tart cherries, along with a small sweet cherry line, apple packing line, and juice line. The Montmorency Tart Cherry, a highlight of their offerings, is celebrated for its health benefits and versatility, available in various forms such as juice, dried, and chocolate-covered.
