About

Background

Located in Gravel Switch, Kentucky, within the Forkland Community of western Boyle County, the farm has been certified organic since 2006. Named after the nearby Rolling Fork River, it is surrounded by rugged knobland, steep hollers, and limestone creeks. The farm delivers goods across the Bluegrass region, from Louisville to Lexington, and its produce is available in retail locations such as Good Foods Coop and Rainbow Blossom Natural Food Markets.

Practices

The farm employs sustainable certified organic agriculture practices, including crop rotation, pig pasture, and intensive cover cropping to maintain soil quality. They are committed to humane farming practices, such as pasture rotation and humane harvest. Heritage breed pork is non-GMO and pasture-raised, while their belted Galloway cattle are grass-fed. Soil fertility is maintained through rotational grazing, year-round cover cropping, and the incorporation of worm castings from a continuous flow-through vermicompost system. Field crops are watered from an onsite water source.

Of note

The farm accepts interns and woofers during the growing season, offering opportunities for organic farm apprenticeships. Their certified organic beef and premium pasture-raised, non-GMO pork are available through their online farm store and at Good Foods Coop on Southland Drive in Lexington. The farm focuses on growing high-quality, fresh, nutrient-dense food for their customers. Follow them on Instagram or Facebook for farm updates.
