About the Farm
Background
Located in the Moapa Valley of Southern Nevada, the farm is surrounded by the scenic Valley of Fire and Red Rocks, about 50 miles north of Las Vegas and 10 miles from Lake Mead. The area has a rich history, being home to the Paiute Indians and early Mormon pioneers. Known for its year-round growing season, the valley produces excellent fruits and vegetables. The farm started a small CSA in 2006 with limited experience but a strong desire to provide quality, nutritious food. Over the years, the farm has flourished, adding small farm animals, an orchard, vineyard, greenhouse, and apiary.
Practices
The farm promotes and models small family farming using organic methods. Unlike conventional monoculture farming and CAFO housing of animals, the farm embraces diversity in crops and animals. Animal and garden waste is composted to enrich the soil, which in turn produces nutritious fruits and vegetables. Bees pollinate the crops and provide honey, while the wholesome food from the farm strengthens the farmers to be good stewards of the land.
The Rest
The farm sells shares of the harvest each season, available for weekly pickup at the farm or delivered to selected sites in the Las Vegas area. The farm's goals include being good stewards of the land, promoting optimal nutrition and health through locally-grown organic produce, achieving self-sufficiency, and sharing the joy of gardening. They offer hands-on opportunities to learn gardening and preserving skills.
