Pu’u O Hoku Ranch
About
Pu’u O Hoku Ranch, located on the remote east end of Molokai Island, spans over 14,000 acres of protected land. The ranch is family-owned and named 'Hill of Stars' in Hawaiian. It has become known for its commitment to restoring the 'aina (land) and preserving the fertile east end of Molokai. The ranch aims to contribute to a self-sufficient community on the island.
The ranch's cattle operation is 100% grass-fed, certified organic, and incorporates biodynamic principles. Cattle are raised on pasture forage and essential minerals, with a focus on grass-based genetics. The ranch uses homeopathics for cattle health and ensures respectful treatment throughout their lives, including accompanying them to a federally-inspected abattoir. The beef is dry-aged for 21 days for enhanced tenderness and flavor. Additionally, the ranch grows bananas, papayas, ‘awa, and taro organically. Efforts are also made in reforestation and reducing the number of deer and pigs in the forest.
Pu’u O Hoku Ranch offers a beautiful lodge and several cottages for retreats, seminars, conferences, and vacations. Visitors can enjoy activities such as hiking, swimming, stargazing, and experiencing a working ranch. The ranch also provides guided wild Moloka‘i axis deer hunts, contributing to land preservation. Farm products, including dried bananas, fresh frozen Hawaiian ‘awa root, honey, and various fresh fruits and vegetables, are available at specialty stores and the ranch store, with options for wholesale and online orders.
