About

Facts
Founded 1909
Background

Established in 1909, this Century Family Farm in Dorchester County, Maryland, transitioned from conventional crop production to focus on raising livestock. Originally aimed at providing wholesome protein for the family, the farm has expanded to sell grass-fed beef, lamb, pork, honey, and eggs directly to the public from their on-farm market.

Practices

The farm emphasizes soil health, animal welfare, and environmental stewardship. They raise grass-fed and finished beef and lamb, woodland pork, and free-range laying hens. Heritage breeds are chosen for their pasture thriving ability, good mothering traits, calm demeanors, and flavorful meat. The farm believes in providing animals with fresh air, sunshine, and healthy forages, adhering to the philosophy that ruminants should have a diet of grasses and forages as nature intended.

Of note

The farm offers First Sunday farm tours from April to December, allowing visitors to observe farming practices and learn more about the livestock. The tours start at 9am and last between 30-45 minutes. The farm also features a documentary showcasing their vision of harmonious farming with nature. Visitors are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather and leave their dogs at home.
