About the Farm
Background
Founded 30 years ago, OAEC has been recognized for its contributions to ecological literacy and social justice, including being chosen as Non-Profit of the Year for the 2nd Senate District. The organization operates on an 80-acre site in Sonoma County, California, where it hosts educational courses, retreats, and community events.
Practices
The nursery employs hand-tending techniques to cultivate a variety of plants, including culinary and medicinal herbs, perennial food crops, and pollinator plants, all selected for their ability to thrive in the Bay Area's climate. The focus is on protecting biological and cultural diversity through regenerative and reciprocal relationships with the natural world.
The Rest
OAEC supports a wide range of projects and partnerships aimed at fostering resilient communities. Their work includes research, training, and advocacy, with a mission to empower local and regional efforts towards ecological and social resilience. The center also offers internships and sells hundreds of varieties of organic plants at their Biodiversity Nursery.
