About

Background

Located within O2AA, an eco-industrial park in West Oakland, the farm is a new initiative aimed at fostering community through agriculture. It is part of a larger mission to preserve space for makers and artisans in Oakland, providing workspace for over 40 small businesses including potters, woodworkers, metalworkers, tailors, farmers, artists, and foragers.

Practices

The farm operates within a closed-loop waste ecosystem, ensuring all organic waste is kept on site. This approach not only minimizes waste but also enriches the soil and supports the growth of a variety of crops. The farm collaborates with CAFF farmers to supplement their weekly CSA boxes and maintains a commitment to ecological practices both on their campus and beyond.

Of note

In addition to their CSA boxes, the farm donates one-third of their produce to the community and sells affordable plant starts to individuals and organizations. The farm grows a diverse range of crops including specialty Asian vegetables, greens, herbs, tomatoes, squash, and lettuce. The larger O2AA campus is a hub for craftspeople and artists, emphasizing the importance of ecology and environmentally-friendly practices.
