About

Facts
105 acres total
Background

Named after the North Branch of the Kawkawlin river, the ranch spans 105 acres of diverse grass and forested lands. Known for their thrift, hardiness, and quality beef, the ranch focuses on Scottish Highland and Galloway breeds, which are well-suited to Michigan's long and snowy winters.

Practices

The ranch employs regenerative grazing techniques, avoiding synthetic fertilizers, soy, GMO, hormones, or antibiotics. Cattle live their entire lives outdoors, with shade trees in the summer and wooded windbreaks in the winter. The focus is on creating a low-stress environment with good, tasty hay and pasture, building up soils with carbon and organic matter to increase the fertility of grasses and clovers.

Of note

Located near Bay City, Saginaw, and Midland in Mid-Michigan, the ranch offers customized beef orders directly to customers, including quarters, halves, or whole portions of natural, pasture-raised beef. Samples are available.
