About the Farm
Background
Located at John Muir High School in Pasadena, California, this 2-acre farm has become a cornerstone for project-based learning and meaningful employment for students. Known for its cooperative CSA model, it gathers produce from both the school farm and other regional sustainable farms, ensuring a diverse and plentiful supply of fresh produce for its members. The farm also funds paid internships for students year-round through proceeds from the CSA program.
Practices
The farm employs organic farming methods to cultivate a variety of vegetables and flowers. By integrating educational programs with agricultural practices, it not only produces food but also fosters youth development and community engagement. The cooperative CSA model supports multiple local farms, enhancing the resilience and variety of the produce available to members.
The Rest
Subscribers to the CSA program receive weekly shares of 7-11 different types of fruits and vegetables, with options for full or half shares. Flower shares are available seasonally. Distribution sites are conveniently located in Pasadena, including Muir Ranch, PUSD headquarters, and City Hall. Additionally, subscriptions to the CSA program are 50% tax-deductible, further incentivizing community support.
