About the Farm

Background

From humble beginnings in suburban backyards on a shoestring budget, Moon Valley Farm has grown into a 70-acre vegetable farm serving hundreds of households and restaurants in Maryland, DC, and NoVA. Founded by Emma Jagoz, a first-generation farmer with a passion for social justice and local activism, the farm began as a personal quest for healthier living during her pregnancy. Emma's journey from a social justice activist to a dedicated farmer was fueled by a desire to address local issues and create meaningful change within her community. Over the years, the farm has expanded its offerings through partnerships with trusted regional farmers, providing a diverse array of local produce and products.

Practices

Moon Valley Farm adheres to organic farming practices aimed at regenerating soils, protecting human health, and maintaining clean water and air. The farm's philosophy centers on building a new and better food system that heals the land, stores carbon in the soil, and filters toxic runoff. The farm's commitment to organic methods reflects a broader mission to combat climate change and ensure food security. By farming year-round, the team ensures continuous food production and employment opportunities, emphasizing the interconnectedness of ecological health and community well-being.

The Rest

Moon Valley Farm collaborates with various local farmers and producers to offer a wide range of products, including gourmet mushrooms, organic eggs, fruit, grains, beans, oats, sourdough bread, and raw honey. These partnerships enable the farm to provide a full, local diet to its community. The farm also grows seedlings for gardeners in the spring and supplies hyper-local produce to the county school system. The name 'Moon Valley' has a personal significance, stemming from stories written by Emma's father about a magical land where everyone had a special talent.
