About the Farm
Background
In 1981, Baxter and Carol Adams planted their first experimental apple orchards, which led to the establishment of the Texas apple industry. By 1988, they expanded their operation with the opening of The Cider Mill and Country Store in downtown Medina, producing over fifty different apple-based products. In 2000, they donated a portion of their ranch to the Nature Conservancy of Texas, aiding in the recovery of native plants. The remaining ranch land was sold, but the orchards continued to thrive. In 2007, Baxter and Carol retired from the store, passing it on to Bryan and Stacie Hutzler, who renamed it 'The Apple Store' and maintained its reputation for quality apple products.
Practices
The farm's commitment to environmental stewardship is evident in their donation of land to the Nature Conservancy, which helped recover endangered native plants. The orchards are maintained with a focus on preserving the natural ecosystem and producing high-quality apples and pumpkins.
The Rest
Tours of the orchards and The Apple Store are available from April through October. The Apple Store, open seven days a week, offers a variety of homemade apple products, including pies, butters, jams, and baked goods. Visitors can also enjoy unique gifts and souvenirs, as well as the famous Apple Ice Cream.
