Laurel Ridge Grass Fed Beef
About
Located in Litchfield, CT, this family-operated farm has built a reputation for producing high-quality grass-fed beef from its own herd of Angus and Angus/Devon cows. The farm spans 700 acres and has become known for its commitment to raising animals in a natural and humane environment. Over the years, they have expanded their offerings to include pastured pork and lamb, maintaining a focus on quality and sustainability.
The farm's cattle live outside year-round, grazing on fresh grass during the warmer months and eating hay harvested from the farm's fields in the colder months. They drink water from the same well system that provides water to the family home and have access to salt licks. No antibiotics or growth hormones are used, and the cows are finished on grass or hay only. The hogs live in large outdoor pastures with access to a 'pig house' and are fed high-quality Blue Seal pig feed along with foraged food such as apples, nuts, and root vegetables. Their diet is further supplemented with expired fruits and vegetables collected from local supermarkets, restaurants, and caterers.
The farm's beef is slaughtered and butchered locally under USDA supervision and is dry-aged for a minimum of two weeks. The meat has a total of 45 'food miles' from the farm to the slaughter facility and back. Depending on the season, the farm sells whole, half, or quarter cows and offers a variety of cuts. Beef is retailed from the farm stand located in the Windmill at 66 Wigwam Road in Litchfield and is also available at New Morning Natural and Organic in Woodbury, CT, and the Litchfield Farmer’s Market. The farm is open on Sundays from 12 to 2 pm.
