About the Farm
Background
Jaeschke's Fruit & Flowers opened in 1985, but the family's farming roots stretch back over 130 years. Known for producing some of the finest apples in the region, the farm has become a staple in the community, offering a wide range of fruits, vegetables, and homemade goods. The farm is particularly noted for its 33 varieties of hybrid, standard, and heirloom apples, grown on a 55-acre orchard.
Practices
The farm benefits from superior growing conditions and cool rainwater from Mt. Greylock, which contribute to the high quality and exceptional flavor of their fruit. They grow many standard old-time apple trees and select varieties that thrive at their unique elevation. The farm also emphasizes the importance of maintaining a diverse range of apple varieties, including Jonagold, Honeycrisp, Macoun, Baldwin, Northern Spy, Granny Smith, and Winter Banana.
The Rest
Visitors can enjoy the farm from May until December, with activities such as pick-your-own apples starting Labor Day, and a farm store that offers pies, jams, jellies, maple syrup, cheese, bread, and other local farm-produced goods. The farmstore is open 7 days a week, and the farm also offers spring bedding plants, hanging baskets, perennials, and vegetable plants for gardening enthusiasts. The picturesque setting at the base of Mt. Greylock provides a beautiful backdrop for picnics and leisurely visits.
