About

Background

Miles Barlogio, born in 1898, was the first in the family to plant pumpkins along Jack Creek's fertile banks. The family has continued this tradition, adapting over the years from dry-land hay, grain, and cattle farming to a diverse range of row crops and orchard produce. The farm is deeply rooted in family values, Christian beliefs, and a commitment to preserving the land for future generations.

Practices

The farm employs naturally grown farming methods, including the use of natural sprays, untreated seeds, and organic pest control. Sunflowers are planted around pumpkin fields to attract cucumber beetles, and milk jugs filled with molasses and apple cider vinegar serve as natural coddling moth traps. Nitrogen-fixing cover crops like vetch and clover are used as natural fertilizers. Owl houses and hawk perches are built to encourage predator bird populations for rodent control. Crop rotation and summer fallowing are practiced to maintain soil health, and only a few acres are fenced to allow native wildlife to utilize the majority of the farm.

Of note

Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities, including u-pick for blackberries, peaches, apples, sweet onions, summer veggies, herbs, and heirloom tomatoes. The farm also features an outdoor family activity area called Happy Acres, which includes farm animals, a fort maze, a tractor tire garden, and a haystack. Honey tastings are available inside the farm market. During the fall, the farm grows over 100 varieties of pumpkins and winter squash. The farm offers RV and tour bus parking with easy highway access, making it a convenient stop for travelers.
