About

Background

Established on the site of Walter's great-grandparents' subsistence farm, the farm dates back to a land grant from the late 1700s. Located in Fairview, the farm still utilizes several old farm buildings, original springs, and inherited tools. The birth of their son Andy marked the seventh generation of the family's presence on the farm.

Practices

Fully committed to sustainability, the farm avoids man-made additives and controls pests through trapping rather than spraying. Soil quality is maintained by adding various amendments produced as by-products on the farm, and weeds are managed through hand weeding. The farm also sources fruit from a network of local farms, ensuring that the produce used in their preserves comes directly from Western North Carolina.

Of note

The farm supports four other local farm families by sourcing fruit such as blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, apples, and strawberries from them. This local sourcing not only supports the community but also guarantees the freshness and quality of the fruit used in their products.
