About

Background

Nathan and Shelah Layton, passionate 4th generation farmers, started Hershberger Heritage Farm in 2014. Nathan, raised on an 800-acre dairy farm in Bedford County, PA, served eight years in the United States Air Force before being honorably discharged in 2009. The farm has quickly gained a loyal following throughout the local area.

Practices

Hershberger Heritage Farm employs beyond organic farming practices, including rotational grazing and Non-GMO verified feed for their pastured poultry. The farm's infrastructure is environmentally friendly, light, mobile, and easily scalable, representing an efficient and environmentally friendly alternative to factory farm poultry production. They produce eggs and broilers using a rotational pasture system, maintaining high standards of land and animal respect.

Of note

Hershberger Heritage Farm offers a subscription box service called Berger Box, delivering farm-raised meat and eggs to homes or available for store pickup. Their products can be found at various local markets and stores, including Doylestown food co-op, Kimberton Whole Foods Locations, Earth Foods, and Perkasie Farmers Market. Testimonials highlight the quality, flavor, and variety of their products, as well as the excellent customer service provided by Nathan and Shelah.
