About the Farm
Background
Harmony Hollow Apiaries, managed by Texas Master Beekeeper Rex Smith, is known for its dedication to beekeeping and education. The apiary operates across several organic farms in Northeast Texas, including locations in Farmersville, Forney, and Ponder. Rex Smith, who holds a State Permit for live honeybee removals and transport, has been recognized for his expertise and commitment to the craft.
Practices
The apiary adheres to practices that prioritize the health and well-being of the bees and the quality of the honey. Honey is kept raw, never heated beyond normal ambient summer temperatures to preserve beneficial enzymes and amino acids. The honey is lightly strained to remove hive debris but not filtered, ensuring that pollen granules remain. The bees are managed to the standards of 'Certified Naturally Grown,' although this certification has lapsed. The apiary focuses on breeding queens for behavior, pollination, honey production, and varroa-sensitive hygiene. The bees exhibit excellent hygienic behavior, contributing to the production of high-quality wildflower honey.
The Rest
Rex Smith's philosophy of creating a 'Bohemian Utopia' reflects in his approach to beekeeping, blending practicality with a free-spirited lifestyle. The apiary offers hive management services for Texas Ag Valuation and does not ship honey, but local pickups and deliveries can be arranged. Customers are encouraged to consult with healthcare professionals about the benefits of local, organically managed raw honey. The apiary also provides educational resources and participates in local events to promote awareness about pollinators and natural resources.
