About

Background

Growing Power has established itself as a key player in urban agriculture, with its model program, the Growing Power Community Food Center, situated on the last remaining farm in Milwaukee. This center has become a beacon for urban farming, showcasing a variety of agricultural practices and serving as a hub for community engagement and education.

Practices

The farm integrates a multitude of agricultural techniques including vermiculture, aquaculture, aquaponics, hydroponics, and horticulture. Outside, permaculture principles guide the cultivation of market gardens, while chickens, goats, and bees contribute to a holistic farming ecosystem.

Of note

Visitors can engage with the farm through community food system training, farm tours, internships, and the weekly purchase of affordable fresh food. The center serves as a living classroom, demonstrating the viability and benefits of urban agriculture.
