About the Farm
Background
Based in an historic 20,000 square-foot greenhouse in northeast Denver’s Elyria-Swansea neighborhood, the organization has been a beacon of hope in a community facing food insecurity. Originally serving the neighborhoods of Globeville, Elyria, and Swansea, they have expanded their reach to diverse communities across Denver. Since 2020, they have delivered 2.6 million meals and now reach over 5,000 community members weekly.
Practices
The GrowHaus employs urban agriculture techniques within their greenhouse to cultivate fresh greens. They focus on creating a community-driven, neighborhood-based food system that emphasizes food access, education, and job training. Their approach to farming and education aims to address the root causes of food insecurity by providing economic opportunities and leadership development.
The Rest
The GrowHaus partners with local organizations such as Denver Public Libraries, Boys and Girls Club, Archway Communities, and the City of Denver to expand food access. Their educational programs include nutrition and cooking classes, Zumba classes, and other initiatives to build healthy habits among youth, adults, and families. They continue to renovate their space to increase food production and enhance their educational facilities.
