Fortner farms
About
The farm began as a dream for the owners, which was delayed due to a cancer diagnosis in 2018. In October 2020, they moved to Holly Pond, Alabama, and started their farm. The farm now has over 30 animals and serves as a therapeutic space for the family, especially for Stephanie, who finds solace in caring for the animals.
The farm grows a variety of heirloom vegetables including tomatoes, crookneck squash, pole beans, peas, okra, corn, and sweet banana peppers. Fall crops include turnip greens and mustard greens. While not certified organic, the farm uses little to no pesticides, relying on free-range chickens to manage pests. The chickens are integral to the farm's ecosystem, providing natural pest control and fresh eggs.
In addition to farming, the farm features a petting zoo with a diverse array of domesticated and exotic animals. Visitors can interact with animals in their natural habitats. The farm also sells goat milk soap made on-site in various fragrances. Entry to the farm is $10 per person, with additional costs for animal feed and merchandise. The farm emphasizes an interactive and educational experience for all ages.
