About the Farm
Background
Located between Bridgewater and Dayton in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, the farm began in 2000 with the construction of a 4600 sq. ft. two-story bank barn on eleven acres, initially housing a small flock of chickens. Honeybees were introduced in 2008 for pollination, followed by Rouen and Muscovy ducks. In 2015, Nubian goats arrived to manage invasive plants and provide raw milk, leading to the addition of Gloucestershire Old Spot pigs in 2016. The farm has since focused on breeding UK purebred and UK/US GOS crosses to diversify the genetics of this endangered breed.
Practices
The animals are pasture and forest raised, supplemented with hay and grains in an ecologically friendly, regenerative manner on a carbon-neutral property. The farm employs wind, solar PV, solar hot water, and geothermal renewable energy technologies. Selective breeding of registered Nubian goats and Gloucestershire Old Spot pigs ensures diversified animal genetics, aligning with the farm's philosophy of humane and ethical animal welfare.
The Rest
The farm offers a variety of products including cheeses, yogurt, and meat boxes, and is committed to producing high-quality, environmentally sustainable food. The farm's purebred and American Nubian goat crosses are registered with ADGA and AGS, while the Gloucestershire Old Spot pigs are registered with GOSPBU and GOSA.
