About

Facts
Founded 2007
Background

The farm has been owned by Joe's family since 1839. Amanda and Joe moved back from California in 2007 to restore the farmhouse and family farm. Joe represents the fourth generation of his family to farm this land. They planted their first garden and welcomed their first flock of chicks in the spring of 2008. Before starting the farm, Amanda and Joe had careers in the sciences, working on conservation and discovering new species.

Practices

Animals are rotationally grazed to ensure they always have access to fresh pasture. The garden employs crop rotation, compost, and cover crops to maintain soil health. No chemical pesticides or synthetic fertilizers are used. The farm raises heritage breeds for their suitability to pasture-based systems and their contribution to genetic diversity and flavor. The slow growth of these breeds prepares them for a productive outdoor life and enhances their flavor. Animals are raised without antibiotics or added growth hormones, and the farm maintains its own breeding flocks to ensure high standards of care from day one.

Of note

The farm offers public events and private tours by appointment, providing opportunities to learn about their heritage breed livestock and farming practices. They also participate in local farmers markets. Amanda runs the farm full-time while Joe works at the University of South Carolina. The farm's products include pasture-raised heritage pork, chicken, turkey, lamb, and mutton. Customers can subscribe to the farm's newsletter for updates, offerings, and event invitations. The farm is active on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
