About the Farm
Background
Located about 20 miles north of Chapel Hill, the farm is operated by third, fourth, and fifth generation descendants. Known for producing tasty, low-fat meat, the farm has a long-standing tradition in the community.
Practices
Dorper lambs graze year-round on carefully selected grasses and legumes that produce nitrogen, reducing the need for commercial fertilizer. Ponds and wetlands are fenced to protect soil and water quality, and fresh deep well water is provided from frost-free water troughs. The flock is guarded by llamas and Akbash-Marrema dogs, and no chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, hormones, or antibiotics are used. The meat is USDA-inspected, Halal, and NCDA-licensed for handling and transport.
The Rest
Visitors are invited to purchase meat, feed the llamas, and enjoy the country atmosphere. For those unable to visit, the farm offers shipping in fast-frozen vacuum packs with individually packaged cuts, whole or halves.
