About the Farm
Background
Located in the mountains of northern Arizona, AlAnn Ranch has established itself as a family-run operation dedicated to breeding and selling hardy alpacas and Angora goats. Over the years, they have expanded their offerings to include Muscovy ducks and a flock of laying hens. The ranch is a member of several cooperative organizations, including the Natural Fiber Producers (NFP) Cooperative, the New England Alpaca Fiber Pool (NEAFP), the North American Suri Cooperative Company (NASURICO), and the Alpaca Blanket Project. Ann, a Certified Sorter(TM), provides skirting and grading services for alpaca fiber, further cementing the ranch's reputation in the fiber community.
Practices
AlAnn Ranch employs hands-on instruction for humane slaughter, animal husbandry, and handling, ensuring ethical treatment of their animals. They offer mentoring for all live animal sales, emphasizing the importance of proper care and management. The ranch's involvement in multiple fiber cooperatives highlights their commitment to quality and sustainable fiber production.
The Rest
Visitors can explore a variety of products, including fleece, hides, processed and handmade items, and even manure for gardening. The ranch offers custom handmade felted alpaca hats as part of their product line. They host several events throughout the year, such as alpaca shearing in April, the Flagstaff Fiber Festival in June, and National Alpaca Farm Days in September. Potential buyers can schedule visits to see the animals for sale, and the ranch is conveniently located just an hour away from NAU and Prescott.
