Keener Farm

In 1830, the farm was purchased by John Keener, the great-great grandfather of the current owner, when the State of Ohio was only 27 years old. The 160-acre farm includes 50 acres of old-growth forest and 100 acres of tillable farmland, which has been gradually converted into pasture for cattle and chickens. The farm house, bank barn, tobacco shed, and ice house were all constructed before 1850 by the owner's ancestors.

The farm emphasizes raising grass-fed beef, pastured chicken and eggs, lamb, and pork from pigs farrowed in a wood lot. The animals are hormone-free, and the farm operates on a CSA model, where consumers purchase a share of the current year's livestock, securing a portion of the farm's annual meat production. This method ensures that the meat is responsibly and locally raised, providing peace of mind to consumers about the health and quality of their food.

A CSA membership not only supports a small local farm but also offers the freshest, tastiest meat available. The farm guarantees monthly delivery of the meat shares and hosts an annual open house to educate shareholders about their farming practices and sustainability efforts. Recently, the farm has opened a new retail store in Dayton, expanding access to their responsibly raised meats.
