About

Background

Hart-to-Hart Farm, owned and operated by Doug and Linda Hartkopf along with their three children, spans 285 acres of pasture, fields, ponds, and forest. The farm is known for its organic dairy production, with a herd of 40 registered Holsteins and Jerseys. Over the years, the farm has expanded its operations to include a variety of livestock such as chickens, goats, sheep, horses, and rabbits. The farm also offers a range of educational programs and camps, making it a hub for community engagement and learning.

Practices

The farm employs rotational grazing on its pastures, ensuring that the land remains fertile and productive. The cows are housed in a freestall barn and milked in a double 6 milking parlor. Forage crops, including grass mix and small grains, are grown on over 140 acres of land, supporting the farm's organic dairy operations. The farm's philosophy centers on reconnecting with the soil to nurture plants, animals, and people, promoting a holistic approach to agriculture.

Of note

In addition to its dairy operations, the farm runs a summer day camp program directed by Linda Hartkopf, who integrates her educational expertise to provide a unique and enriching experience for campers. The farm also offers internships for individuals interested in learning more about organic dairy farming. Visitors can find the farm's milk under the Organic Valley Family Farm label and in Stonyfield Farm products. The farm hosts various events throughout the year, including Open Farm Days and educational programs for schools and families.
