About the Havre de Grace Colored School - The proceeds from these events will go towards the restoration and preservation of the historic Havre de Grace Colored School. Built in 1912, the Havre de Grace Colored School began as an elementary school for African American children, but in 1930, due to parental prayers and petitions, the county expanded the building to accommodate a high school. This 113-year-old historic school building is more than just brick and mortar; it serves as a powerful symbol of the determination and advocacy of those who fought for better educational opportunities for African American students. It stands as a testament to their enduring legacies. The building tells a story of their determination and perseverance. Your support of this valuable piece of history is greatly appreciated.
