About

Learn to identify local mushrooms of the Blue Ridge Mountains from our certified wild foragers.

Our Beginner Mushroom Identification class held at Fifth Season Gardening Asheville Marketplace at 4 South Tunnel Road introduces you to identifying mushrooms, covering crucial features for safe foraging. We’ll identify safe edibles and dangerous look-alikes.

• Anatomy, terminology

• Taste test cultivated species

• Illustrated local mushroom ID cheat sheet

Our educators are certified in Wild Mushroom Foraging, Identification, and Food Safety through NC USDA and Mushroom Mountain. We'll focus on local species you can find commonly (or rarely!) through the Blue Ridge Mountains, such as "Hedgehog" Hydnum, "Black Trumpet" Craterellus, and "Lion's Mane" Hericium.
