About the Farm
Background
Established in 2010 by San Diego Roots Foundation, the farm transitioned to the management of the Resource Conservation District of Greater San Diego County in September 2019. Located near the Tijuana River and the Mexican border, it has been a hub for community engagement and education in sustainable agriculture. The farm acknowledges the Kumeyaay Native people, honoring their historical and ongoing connection to the land.
Practices
The farm employs regenerative farming practices aimed at conserving and restoring natural resources. Programs focus on soil health, composting, and the roles of animals in agriculture. The farm also diverts food scraps into compost and plants fruit trees to enhance biodiversity.
The Rest
Wild Willow Farm offers a variety of educational opportunities including field trips, workshops, and a Farm School course. The farm also hosts community volunteering events and a CSA farmshare program. In 2022, the farm sold 6,280 lbs. of produce, educated 1,755 students through field trips, and engaged 1,081 volunteers who contributed over 3,242 hours.
