About the Farm
Background
Originally part of the early-20th-century country estate of renowned artist Polly Thayer Starr, Weir River Farm is a 75-acre working farm in Hingham. It captivates visitors with its livestock family of horses, pigs, cows, chickens, and sheep, and supports diverse wildlife habitats, including upland grasslands. The Weir River passes through the farm at its northwest edge, adding to its picturesque landscape.
Practices
Weir River Farm employs a trifecta of CSA vegetable production, livestock operations, and educational programming to sustain its stewardship of soil, water, and place. The farm's practices include raising Belted Galloway cattle, horses, sheep, goats, chickens, pigs, and a llama. The vegetable CSA features 100% organic farm-fresh produce, while the meat CSA includes 100% grass-fed beef and lamb, and pasture-raised pork and chicken. The farm store offers Trustees Grown produce, meat, and eggs, along with local and organic food from high-quality producers.
The Rest
Weir River Farm offers a variety of community events, including Open Barnyard days, sensory-friendly picnics, and live music events. The farm's trails connect to nearly 5,000 contiguous acres of open space, including the adjacent Whitney & Thayer Woods. The farm also features a store where visitors can purchase local produce and meats, and it provides educational programs to connect people to their local food systems.
