About the Farm
Background
Founded in 2012 by St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Sola Gratia Farm was established with the goal of building a regional food system where high-quality, locally grown produce is available to everyone, especially those at an economic disadvantage. Over the last nine years, they have donated over 99,000 pounds of produce to the Eastern Illinois Food Bank and other hunger abatement programs in East Central Illinois.
Practices
Sola Gratia Farm employs organic production methods that focus on growing an abundance of nutritious, delicious fruits and vegetables, while enhancing soil structure and biology. They encourage community involvement through CSA membership, volunteer opportunities, special events, and educational programming. The farm donates at least 10% of its produce to local food banks, pantries, soup kitchens, and free neighborhood markets, amounting to approximately 30% of their harvest since 2012.
The Rest
The CSA program offers fresh, seasonal vegetables for various growing seasons with both partial and full shares available. Pickup options include the Champaign Farmers Market, the farm in Urbana, or delivery for an extra fee. The farm grows over 150 varieties of 50 different vegetables and aims to make fresh, healthy, locally grown produce accessible to everyone.
