About the Farm
Background
For over a decade, beekeeper Henry Storch has been breeding locally adapted honeybees in remote parts of the Oregon Coast Range. Thriving in the cool and damp conditions found in the region, these bees produce honey earlier in the season. Alongside local farmers, Henry works with his bees to pollinate crops that produce unique varietal honeys that complement the wildflower honeys harvested in the Coast Range.
Practices
The farm focuses on breeding honeybees that are well-adapted to the Pacific Northwest's unique climate, particularly the cool and damp conditions of the Oregon Coast Range. This adaptation allows the bees to produce honey earlier in the season. The bees are also used to pollinate local crops, contributing to the production of unique varietal honeys. The farm's honey varieties reflect the diverse flora of the region, from wildflowers to specific crops like clover and heirloom squash.
The Rest
Visitors can sample a variety of honeys and purchase fresh seasonal produce year-round at the Farmstand in Corvallis. The farm also offers wholesale options for chefs, bakers, caterers, and retailers. Events such as bulk honey pours and educational field trips are hosted regularly. The Farmstand is open daily from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, offering fresh fruits, vegetables, farm fresh eggs, and honey.
