About the Farm

Background

Family owned since 1960, Kinloch Farm represents generations of organic practices and shared values in protected open space, land and wildlife conservation, and regenerative farming. The farm is known for its historic line of Aberdeen Angus cattle and its commitment to environmental stewardship. Today, the third generation of the Currier family continues to engage in the family legacy with a retail market for grassfed beef, honey, and other locally grown foods.

Practices

Kinloch Farm operates at the intersection of agriculture and conservation, pursuing regenerative and adaptive management principles designed to support ecological processes. The farm's Aberdeen Angus cattle thrive within grassland systems, promoting whole systems health. Adaptive grazing practices improve soil microbiology, increase water retention, store carbon, and promote forage diversity. The farm also focuses on promoting native plant species, providing habitat for grassland birds, pollinators, and other wildlife. Conservation efforts include managing 205 acres of native grasslands, 105 acres of native warm-season grass pasture, 311 acres of riparian buffers, and hardwood forests.

The Rest

The farm store, located just outside the historic town of The Plains, carries Kinloch Farm products and a curated selection of goods from Virginian producers. It is open from Thursday to Sunday, 10am to 6pm. The farm also engages in research partnerships with local, regional, and national organizations to quantify their conservation efforts.
