About the Farm
Background
For over a hundred years, the Hurd family has been cultivating quality produce in the fertile soil of the Hudson Valley National Heritage area. Celebrating over 25 years of family festivals and 125 years of farming, the farm has become a beloved destination for families, schools, and community groups. The farm's history is rich with intergenerational involvement, from Grandpa Phil's engineering projects to Grandma Susan's role as Director of Beauty & Fun.
Practices
The farm employs a hands-on approach to agriculture, focusing on the care of orchard plantings to produce crisp, juicy apples. The farm also features pollinator fields and forest trails, emphasizing the importance of biodiversity and ecological health. The café supports local farms and businesses by incorporating their ingredients into family recipes, promoting a farm-to-table philosophy.
The Rest
Visitors can enjoy a wide range of activities including hayrides, corn mazes, a giant slide, and feeding farm animals. The farm also hosts themed festival weekends, educational school tours, and special events like the Spring Apple Blossom Festival. The Historic Dutch Barn offers country gifts and favorite food items, while the bar in the barn serves handcrafted cocktails and local apple cider. The farm market sells pre-picked apples and SnapDragon Apple Cider made by Docs Cider. New for 2024, Hurds Farm School provides unique learning experiences for both adults and kids.
