About the Farm
Background
Starting in 2012, the farm began operating the former Ewen's Sleepy Hollow Sugar Shack, making syrup from local trees. In 2014, Jim and Allison purchased the historic 100-acre Marshall Farm, moving their livestock and equipment to Fitchburg, fulfilling a lifelong dream. The farm's journey began with backyard chickens and expanded to include cows, pigs, and a hay business, driven by a passion for agriculture.
Practices
The farm raises Hereford beef cattle on a pasture-based diet, primarily hay, supplemented with silage in colder months, without using growth hormones or antibiotics. Pigs are fed a grain and produce diet. Animal welfare is a top priority, ensuring a high quality of life. All meats are processed at a local USDA-inspected facility and flash frozen for quality. The farm also produces free-range eggs and makes its own livestock feed, except for grain.
The Rest
The farm offers a variety of pick-your-own fruits, including strawberries, peaches, raspberries, apples, blueberries, pumpkins, and blackberries. They also host events such as car shows and live music, and provide a bar, restaurant, and ice cream shop. Their retail store is open on weekends, and they offer horse hay for sale.
