About the Farm

Background

Godard’s Red Hen Farm began in 1984 with apple growing and a few bee hives. Over the years, it expanded to include more apples, blueberries, grapes, and a full apiary. The farm, originally owned by Sue’s grandparents, has been passed down through four generations. In 2010, Mineral Hills Winery was established, starting with 50 cases of wine and growing to over 1400 cases annually. The farm and winery are now transitioning to the next generation, with Sue and Larry's daughter, Anna, taking over.

Practices

The farm emphasizes sustainable farming practices, focusing on high-quality grape cultivation and traditional winemaking techniques. The apiary produces honey used in mead and other products. The farm's philosophy centers on the belief that the best wines come from the best grapes, and they take great care in their farming methods to ensure top-quality produce.

The Rest

Mineral Hills Winery offers a variety of wines, including dry reds and whites, fruit wines like Apple Wine and Blueberry Wine, and Mead made from their own honey. The farm store sells seasonal products such as apples, sweet apple cider, blueberries, and honey. Sue also crafts hand creams and lip balms from beeswax. The farm's name, 'Red Hen Farm,' was inspired by the children's story 'The Little Red Hen,' reflecting the family's self-reliant spirit.
