About the Farm

Background

Since the early 1990s, this farm has been dedicated to creating a 100% organic, sustainable, and humane farming environment. The property, located within a historic ranch established in 1884, has a rich history, having hosted notable figures such as Albert Einstein, Wyatt Earp, and Ernest Hemingway. The farm is known for its high-quality essential oils and hydrosols, thanks to its unique altitude, climate, and temperature changes. Additionally, the farm boasts about 1,000 olive trees, some of which are over 80-100 years old, and produces its own olive oil.

Practices

The farm adheres to a philosophy of living in harmony with the land, nature, and wildlife. It uses natural resources as much as possible, irrigating with natural spring water from its own creek. The farm avoids synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, and other harmful chemicals, ensuring none are present in their composts, feeds, or any products they buy, work with, pack, or sell. All herbs are hand-harvested, hand-planted, hand-weeded, and manually processed. The farm raises certified organic livestock, including sheep, chickens (for eggs), beef, and a few pigs.

The Rest

The farm offers a variety of festivals and events throughout the year, including the Lavender Festival, Lavender Nights, Christmas Nights, Community Olive Picking, Sourdough Bread Festival, Sheep Shearing Festival, Tea Festival, and Olive Festival. Visitors can explore extensive hiking trails on weekends and enjoy meals prepared by the Grand Oak Steakhouse and Bar during festivals. The farm also has an on-site bakery producing authentic sourdough bread using freshly milled ancient grains. Membership options provide free admission, parking, and discounts at select retail and food booths.
