About the Farm
Background
The farm has grown from a small operation to one that now includes nearly 2000 gallons of rainwater capacity and a variety of fruit trees and bushes. Known for its garlic braids in the fall, the farm grows several varieties of garlic including inchelium, susanville, romanian red, red toch, persian star, and red roja.
Practices
Hand planting and harvesting are central to the farm's operations, with a focus on green manure and compost enriched with beneficial plants for pollination. Without a well, the farm relies on rainwater collectors located at the garden site, boasting a capacity of nearly 2000 gallons. The farm also emphasizes biodiversity, growing a variety of fruit trees such as apricots, cherries, peaches, asian pears, paw paws, american plums, persimmons, saskatoons, and elderberries. Tree and plant starts are grown from seed, including manchurian apricots, victorian rhubarb, and paw paw seedling trees.
The Rest
The farm is surrounded by a growing Aldo Leopold prairie and features numerous bluebird boxes. The garden portion includes salad greens, sunflowers, and winter squashes that fill the space after the garlic harvest, which yields between 1500-2000 heads.
