About the Farm
Background
Judith and Chanowk started their farm as a half-acre urban plot in Sacramento, which has since expanded to multiple locations. Over the past decade, they have used agriculture to transform their neighborhood, a historically working-class area facing food apartheid, poverty, and gentrification. Their farm has become a sustainable community resource, feeding hundreds and educating thousands.
Practices
The farm employs ecological land stewardship practices, focusing on the rhythms of the earth to grow seasonal vegetables, fruits, and herbs. They also raise pasture-raised eggs and produce handmade artisan soap and beauty products. Their approach intertwines food sovereignty with community building and workforce development.
The Rest
The farm's mission is deeply rooted in addressing the challenges faced by communities of color, particularly in urban areas. By transforming their yard into a productive farm, they have created a narrative of love, perseverance, and respect for the land.
