About the Farm
Background
The farm was first owned by the family when Irvin and Margareta Yetter purchased 230 acres in 1893. After passing through several owners, Nelson and Ruth (Yetter) Brannan brought it back into the family in 1973. Today, Jarod Armstrong owns and stewards the approximately 100-acre farm, officially named Yetter Farm to honor the family's long history.
Practices
The farm employs rotational grazing methods to ensure animals have constant access to fresh grass or hay, clean water, and sunlight. The philosophy emphasizes that soil should not be left uncovered, diversity is beneficial, and healthy soil leads to healthy plants and animals. Animals are given access to the outdoors with fresh pasture, resulting in higher quality meat products. The farm strives to use fewer pesticides and properly incorporate animals into agriculture to benefit the soil and environment.
The Rest
Yetter Farm offers pasture-raised beef and is beginning to raise chickens on pasture. The cows consume a diet mainly of grass and clover, supplemented with locally sourced grain and minerals. The farm plans to add pasture-raised pork to its offerings next year. The mission is to provide sustainable, nutrient-dense food options for the local community while being responsible stewards of the land and respecting the dignity of the animals.
