About the Farm
Background
Since opening in 2010, Wozupi, which means 'garden' in the Dakota Language, has been owned and operated by the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, a federally-recognized, sovereign Indian tribe located southwest of Minneapolis/St. Paul. The farm embodies the tribe's focus on being a good neighbor, good employer, and good steward of the earth.
Practices
The farm employs environmentally-sustainable and fair labor practices to grow vegetables, herbs, and fruit. Most products are certified organic, with vegetables and herbs in transition to becoming organic. The orchard features apples, native foods, a native plant nursery, and small gardens dedicated to seed-saving and pollinator habitation.
The Rest
Wozupi produces eggs, honey, and maple syrup, and offers educational, therapeutic, and fun opportunities both at the farm and through community outreach. The farm's products include a wide variety of seasonal, certified organic vegetables and fruits, as well as locally harvested maple syrup.
