About the Farm

Background

Workman Farms, established in 1964 by Ted and Edna Workman, began with the cultivation of the famous Hearts O Gold cantaloupe. Over the years, they expanded their produce offerings to include corn, tomatoes, summer squash, watermelon, green beans, beets, onions, cucumbers, potatoes, and garlic. The farm's produce was sold at a stand initially located in front of their house and later moved to a more prominent location at the corner of Reno Hwy and Soda Lake Road. The family business grew with the involvement of their children, and by the early 1980s, they diversified into craft supplies. In the early 1990s, they further expanded by adding a nursery.

Practices

The farm employs traditional farming methods, focusing on growing a diverse range of vegetables. The produce is managed by family members and hired help, ensuring hands-on care and attention to the crops.

The Rest

Workman Farms offers a wide array of annual and perennial flowers, shrubs, roses, shade and fruit trees, decorative trees, vines, and grasses, along with vegetable plants from late March to late June. They also provide fertilizers, soil amendments, pesticides, and herbicides. The craft store features a variety of fabric, beads, lace, quilting supplies, and ribbons, and hosts classes like knitting and crocheting throughout the year. Assistance with quilting projects is also available.
