About the Farm
Background
Celebrating 90 years of winemaking, Wooden Valley Winery has been family-owned for three generations. Mario Lanza and Lena Carlevaro Lanza started the journey in 1944 when Mario joined the Brea brothers at the winery. By 1955, Mario became the sole owner, maintaining the name Wooden Valley Winery. Over the years, the family expanded the vineyards to over 300 acres, transitioning from pear and prune trees to vines. The winery has grown under the stewardship of Mario's son, Chick, and now his grandsons, who continue the tradition of crafting exceptional wines.
Practices
The winery focuses on producing estate wines, utilizing rootstocks perfectly suited to the Suisun Valley's microclimates. The family’s commitment to improving their farming methods and winemaking techniques has been a cornerstone of their philosophy, ensuring the land is treated with respect and care. Each family member contributes to the meticulous process of growing grapes and crafting wines, emphasizing quality and tradition.
The Rest
Visitors are invited to the tasting room to sample a variety of wines and enjoy gourmet food items and wine accessories. The vine-covered picnic area is a popular spot during the warm season, offering a picturesque setting to relax and savor the winery's offerings. The Lanza family warmly welcomes guests, sharing their rich history and dedication to winemaking.
