About the Farm
Background
Arcenio and Karin Velez, former U.S. Marines, transformed a large home garden on five acres into a 40-acre farm over the past 15+ years. The farm has involved their children and family friends, maintaining a commitment to providing fresh, wholesome food to the community through farmer’s markets and home delivery.
Practices
Natural farming methods are at the core of their operations, avoiding synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides. Fertilization is achieved through composted materials, while pests are managed by companion planting and hand-picking. Weeding is done manually. Animals are fed natural grasses and grains and are given ample space to roam.
The Rest
The farm is open to visitors each Friday from March 15th through October 18th, with a produce stand and greenhouse available. They participate in several farmer's markets, including Lee's Summit, Peculiar, and Harrisonville. Customers can also order online for home delivery.
